Background
Why do some programmes succeed to
attracting targeted audiences, and others, which may have
cost more, are flops? Why do distributors work in genres?
What’s actually happening to an audience
while they are watching film, TV, theatre or concerts? Do
dramas have the same effect on people as sport? When people
cry because of something sad they watch on TV, they love.
If you make them cry in real life, they hate you – why?
These are just some of the questions that
you will be able to answer once you have gone though this
course. Using all the accepted principles of
psychology
“Audience Psychology” is directed to a
Busvannah Enterprise Standard that is compliant with the
format of a SAQA Unit Standard. You may choose to be
assessed for competency in the skills you will learn, and
when competent will be issued with a certificate. There is
no SAQA Unit Standard for this outcome as yet. Your
competency records will be kept for recognition of Prior
Learning when appropriate.
Who should attend this course
Writers; directors; producers; funders;
people wanting to start a production business.
What's in it for you?
This course
will help you answer these questions: Can I tell the
difference between what films and TV you like, and what the
audience seems to like? Why are some programmes so
unexpectedly successful, or outright failures? What is
going on in the mind of the viewers while they are watching
- what are they feeling? How can I change the
attitudes of people through TV by informing and educating?
What is "entertaining" and "fun"? Why do audiences differ so
much in what they find "entertaining"?
Entertainment
is an emotional product. If you work in advertising,
broadcasting, commissioning, production, writing, pay-TV,
distribution or corporate television, this course will help
you master the feelings and emotions of the audience.
It will help you reduce risk, and take the obvious steps to
avoid a flop.
