What is outcomes-based training?

Outcomes-based training is the "coming of age" of the type of training that we called Criterion-Referenced Instruction (CRI) n the 1970's and Competency-based Training (CBT) in the 1980's .

Put very simply it means this:

bullet We set a standard for competencies, which means that we make a list of all the things you will be able to DO competently at the end of the training.
bullet We then set the criteria by which your competencies will be measured (how we measure if you CAN do the skills).
bullet   Then we write a training course based on exactly what you will be assessed on (HAVE to know, not NICE to know).
bullet Then we assess you, and either you are COMPETENT, or NOT YET COMPETENT.

What is experiential training?

You cannot do something until you understand why you are doing it, what's in it for you, and what effects it might have on other people.

This is a simple way of explaining "concept".  You have to understand the concept: what it's all about, what the benefits are for you and others, and why you are doing it.

Put it is everyday lingo: "You have to get the feel of it."

You can only get the "feel" of it by feeling.  That's why we use "Structured Experiences" so that we can get you to do things that are familiar to you, but at the same time show you the feel of a new concept.

Structured Experiences (or Experiential Training) is not for amateurs.  It takes years to develop, and we have been growing with it for 25 years.

How does assessment work?

Right at the beginning of all our courses, you will be given a standard, and the Assessment Guide.  This Guide tells you exactly how you will be assessed and what you have to prepare for that assessment.

There are no surprises, no catch questions, no sit down exams.  We simply assess whether you are competent to perform the skills we set out for you to learn in the first place.
