games and simulations for training

Why games?

  1. Games allow learners to experience the activities and dynamics involved in business.
  2. Games are the ideal way to change attitudes, and bring skills to life.
  3. Games enable employees to see things from other peoples' points of view, especially the company and management
  4. Games are ideal for training unemployed and school leavers in business basics and how to start their own small business.

How do they work?

Games are structured experiences that combine

skills and attitude objectives
with
The mathematics of probability and chance.

To design a game, you start off the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes that exist and measure the gap between this and your final objectives.  Then you create a suitable mechanism.  This mechanism or vehicle is manipulated by risk and probability mathematics to develop and structure that achieves objectives within all constraints.

Designing games is not a simple or procedural process.  It requires enormous creativity throughout, combined with the patience to go through testing every level of the game.  Finally a game has to have built in structures for evaluation.

OUR SHOP

OUR SHOP is a board game that takes place over a full day.  It can be played by teams of 4-6, with up to eight teams at a time.

The basic game is customised and branded to the client and purpose of the game.  It allows learners to experience the dynamics of a small business from the very beginning.  At the end of the day, learners will be able to explain why businesses operate as they do, and to discuss management's role and responsibilities.  The game requires total involvement, and can result in heated activities.

OUR FACTORY, OUR B&B, OUR (anything)

These games are variations on OUR SHOP, and achieve the same outcomes except specific to companies in a wide variety of industries including financial, hospitality, sorts, service, supplies, repairs and construction.  These are full day games.

SUPERVISING AND MANAGING PEOPLE

These board games involve choice, risk, and personal development as a supervisor, manager of supervisors, and manager of managers.  Specially designed to South African situations, these local and original games teach basic interpersonal skills, and develop positive attitudes towards employees and subordinates. These are full day games.

NEGOTIATION

These active participation and role play games, last three hours and places the players in a situation where they have to find out specific information for themselves, and discover on their own, ideal way to negotiate their way to towards their own objectives. This game is usually highly charged and emotional.
