There are no fixed rules
to planning a career in the media or creative industries. There are so
many cross-overs, and people often migrate from one medium to another
because the skills, gifts and talents cross over.
For instance, you need
sound engineers in television, radio, film, the theatre and in
multi-media. You need directors in each of these media.
However, deep down inside each one of us, is a highly creative and
ambitious person who has a burning ambition to succeed in a specific
medium.
So where do you start?
There is only one place, and that is at the bottom.
A degree or diploma at
a higher institution may give you a leg up. Your father's money
won't get you anywhere.
The best way to make
films is to work with those who make them. The same goes for
radio, theatre, TV and multimedia. Get a job, and work with the
very best you can.
